The majority of the hotels catering to visitors of Athens are located in the Monastiraki neighborhood running from Monastiraki Square up to Syntagma Square along the bustling pedestrian thoroughfare of Ermou, shown in the orange shaded area near the center of the map above.

The neighborhood of Psyrri lies just to the north of Monastiraki. Psyrri is a lively neighborhood in Athens, Greece with a rich history as a leather tanning center, now transformed into a cultural hotspot with eclectic street art, traditional Greek restaurants, and a bustling nightlife scene of bars and clubs. Visitors can also explore historic sites like the ancient Agora and the Monastiraki flea market.

The small neighborhoods of Plaka and Makrygianni, home to the Acropolis Museum, immediately to the south of Monastiraki have rich history. The narrow cobblestone streets are begging to be explored. Plaka and Makrygianni are also hubs for tourist shopping, dining and entertainment.

To the east of Syntagma and Monastiraki, just north of the National Gardens, is the trendy neighborhood of Kolonaki, home to lots of cute cafes, restaurants, and bars, packed with young upwardly mobile Athenians.
